The emergency services joined forces with Victim Support Witness Service yesterday to help raise money and awareness of vulnerable witnesses and victims giving evidence in court.
The event was held at the Toby Carvery in Hilsea, Portsmouth.
Claire Haque, service delivery manager, said: ‘We’re a volunteer-based service. People give up their time to help people who are finding the strength to deal with courts. They can be an intimidating place.
‘We’re here with the police and fire services to beat last year’s total of £600.
‘We wanted to get all ages involved and Toby Carvery has been a big help. The support we get from Carl Lozano, the manager, is great.’
Police cars and fire engines were at Toby Carvery showing children around their vehicles and involving them in a range of activities. Father Christmas was also there to hand out gifts.
Sergeant Emma Hart, Fratton Police Station, said: ‘We got involved because Witness Support is a close charity that we work with.’
A money raised it yet to be counted.
