Big picnic is a big success!

It was only supposed to draw 3,000 people, but around 10,000 people yesterday joined in the Big Picnic on Southsea common.

Anna Wardley, from the Healthy Pompey team, which ran the event, desribed yesterday's event as a massive success, paving the way for a summer of 'little picnics' to take place in local communities.

Anna said: 'Everybody brought down their picnics and their blankets and are just trying different things.

'It's great. Everyone's had a lot of fun.'

It was organised as a way to give families the chance to enjoy a traditional picnic and a day of free entertainment and healthy activities.

It featured the Pompey Health Bus, a Fruit Factor assault course to win places in the Great South Run, hula hooping and belly dancing, as well as other activities.
