Blue Cross Buddies raise funds for pooches
It's no longer a dog's life for these pooches after schoolchildren raised funds to help look after them.
Year 4 pupils at Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School have become 'Blue Cross Buddies' to help Britain's pet charity after a volunteer visited to talk to the children.
Pupils then wrote letters to families and local shops, persuading them to attend or donate to their charity afternoon which raised cash for the Southampton Blue Cross branch's building a better future appeal.
Local businesses gave generously to the raffle stall and parents came along for the afternoon to support the pupils' sponsored fancy dress fun run. They raised an impressive 1,535 for the Blue Cross which they presented to June Leatheam from the charity and two dogs who will benefit from the cash.
'This new curriculum has really captivated their imagination making their learning real and meaningful,' said Year 4 leader Tess Chapman.
'I can't believe how enthralled and involved the children became, giving up their pocket money and free time to raise money. Businesses and families have been so supportive. I never dreamed they'd raise this amount. I am, and they should be so proud of their hard work and the difference it will make to all those rescued animals.'
