CLOSED Police have shut part of Southsea beach following the discovery of a body

A body of a man has been discovered on a beach in Southsea this morning.

A dog walker raised the alarm after seeing the body at around 7.15am.

Police earlier sealed off part of the beach near the Tenth Hole Tearooms and the pitch and putt golf course while forensic teams carry out their investigations.

However, the body had to be moved due to the incoming tide.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘It’s too early to say what the circumstances might be surrounding the discovery of the body.

‘At this stage we do not know whether it is suspicious or not.’

Police are working to try and establish the identity of the man, and ask anyone with any information to contact DS Gary Cable at Fratton Police Station on 101, or anonymously via the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.
