Boy, nine, dies in swing tragedy
A NINE year-old boy died after becoming entangled in the ropes of a swing in his family's garden.
James Bray, known as Jamie, was found unconscious by his family at an address in Beeches Hill, Bishop's Waltham.
His family tried to resuscitate him but could not revive him. His mother Sarah Bray performed CPR until an air ambulance arrived to fly her son to Southampton General Hospital.
But James was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival in hospital.
The accident happened at 5pm on Tuesday, but police have only just released details.
James's uncle Chris Wheal, 44, who is Mrs Bray's brother, today issued a statement on behalf of the family - Sarah, 42, dad Richard, 41, and Jamie's older brother Sam, 11.
He said: 'This is every parent's nightmare. Our family hasn't even started to come to terms with Jamie's death yet. Sarah, Richard and Sam will need a lot of space to get over this.'
Jamie, born on April 3, 2001, was a pupil at St John the Baptist School in Waltham Chase, where his favourite subjects were science and maths.
He was described by his family as a busy, active child, who loved building things, and outside of school, he was a member of Solent Riding Club Juniors.
He owned a pony, Mini, who he loved to jump, gallop, compete on and care for.
He was also a member of Ryukin Ryu Karate Club.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary's Specialist Investigations Department are investigating. There are no suspicious circumstances.
A file is being prepared on behalf of the coroner.
The family has requested any donations should be made to St John the Baptist School or Cancer Research UK.
