Boy, six, left with serious injuries after dog attack
A SIX-year-old-boy has been left with serious facial injuries after he was bitten by a dog in Portsmouth.
The little boy was walking along Crasswell Street in the city centre with his mum when a Staffordshire bull terrier jumped up at him and bit his face.
He was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, and will need reconstructive surgery following the attack.
Police have found the dog but are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at about 1.40pm on Thursday.
PC Mark Walsh said: 'The young boy has been left with serious facial injuries that will require reconstructive surgery.
'The dog has been located and this incident is currently under investigation, and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to contact police as soon as possible.
'This incident was very shocking and it is vital we gather all available information.'
Cllr Margaret Foster, ward member for Charles Dickens ward – where the attack happened – told The News she was shocked to hear about the incident.
She said: 'It's terrible. I'm shocked to hear about this, a dog jumping up and biting a child on the face.
'I'm a dog owner myself and I hate to hear about something like this.
'I send my best wishes to the family and little boy and let's hope the child isn't scarred for life by this.
'It must be very traumatic for such a young boy and I hope he gets over it quickly.'
Anyone with information in relation to this incident should call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
