Brave girl fights off robber cyclist in woods
A TEENAGE girl fought off a thug who cycled up to her and tried to snatch her handbag.
The 17-year-old was walking along an alleyway in a copse between Ellisfield Road and Riders Lane, close to St Francis Church in Leigh Park, when the robber struck.
The man grabbed her handbag and tried to pull it from her, but she refused to let go.
The robber rode off empty-handed.
The girl was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for injuries sustained during the attempted robbery. She was discharged later the same day.
Police have only just released details of the incident, which happened at about 2.45pm on Wednesday, February 8.
Police Staff Investigator Ray Churchley, from Waterlooville CID, said: ‘This was a nasty assault on a lone female and I would like to hear from anyone who has information about who’s responsible or may have seen the suspect in the area at the time.’
The girl was able to give police a description of the offender.
He was riding a mountain bike with rubber, spring-like front forks. He was white, of average build and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a black hooded top and had a black scarf covering the lower half of his face.
Call Waterlooville CID on 101.
