Bright spark Sabrina impresses judges
Chichester College electrical installation student Sabrina Thomas certainly has a way of lighting up a room.
The 19-year-old had every reason to celebrate as she scooped first place in the southern heat of national construction competition, SkillElectric.
Staged at Chichester College's Terminus Road site, SkillElectric was a chance for trainee electricians to show off their abilities in contests over two days.
Bosham resident, Sabrina who previously attended Bourne Community College, was amazed to hear her name announced as the winner.
'I didn't think for one minute that I would emerge as the winner,' she said. 'I was just thrilled to be deemed good enough to enter the competition let alone win it.
'If I do manage to get through to the national final at the Birmingham NEC in October, it'll be a fantastic opportunity for me. I'll do my best and just see what happens.
'Eventually I would like to go into project management in the construction industry. I've loved my electrical training course and know that it'll stand me in good stead in the future.'
Head of skills competitions and awards for organisers Summitskills, Neil Collishaw said: 'We are thrilled that Sabrina took the first place; she was up against some very stiff competition from the other 10 competitors from throughout London and the south of England.'
