Businesses soon to be told of precinct change

LETTERS will soon go out to businesses informing them of changes due to be made to a Southsea street.

The southern precinct in Palmerston Road is to become open to traffic again one-way from the seafront following approval by Portsmouth City Council.

It came on the back of concerns raised about businesses experiencing a downturn in trade. But pubs say the move will deter more visitors from stopping there.

The council is to spend £20,000 making the pedestrian zone one-way, changing road signs and putting in parking bays.

The move is temporary and will last 12 months before residents and firms are consulted about what the long-term solution should be.

Tory ward councillor Linda Symes said: ‘It’s a shame people weren’t consulted properly in the first place.’
