Cash aids radio's link with patients

Freemasons have presented Portsmouth Hospital Broadcasting with a £500 cheque to buy much-needed equipment for their new studio at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Kevin Clements and Kelvin Byng, of Portus Magnus Lodge, handed over the cheque as PHB prepares to move to a new purpose-built studio suite within the heart of the redeveloped Queen Alexandra Hospital.

The money will go towards replacing the old equipment.

Darren Whittenham-Gray, chairman of PHB, said: 'With all the hard work that my volunteers put in to producing and presenting their broadcasts, I'm glad that a section of the local community such as the Portus Magnus Lodge have appreciated the work that we do and have offered us this donation.

'Hospital Radio has been the starting point for many of the country's best known broadcasters and with the donation from Portus Magnus Lodge we can continue to offer our important public service to Portsmouth hospital patients and offer an opportunity for our volunteers to become the next Terry Wogan or Chris Moyles.'

The money will be put towards a new heart of the studio, a new presenter's desk and mixer for the broadcast of hospital radio shows.

The new studio at QA will allow the volunteers to forge links with the patients that it will broadcast to on the hospital's patient entertainment units located in the majority of wards.
