CCTV for councillor targeted by vandals

A COUNCILLOR is set to be given police surveillance cameras to help protect him from yobs.

Last night, Councillor David Horne's car was attacked with paint-stripper for the third time in just four months.

The beleaguered Labour representative for Paulsgrove is now talking to police officers, who have already offered to fit covert CCTV cameras to catch the thugs red-handed.

The cameras would be fitted to his car and home in Colesbourne Road, and would film constantly at night.

In the latest attack, Cllr Horne woke this morning to find bare body panels all over his maroon Honda. He believes he is being targeted because of his vigorous anti-crime campaigning.

'The people doing this are complete cowards. They come in the middle of the night when no-one can see them. It's pathetic,' he said.

'The police have suggested cameras, and I would be more than happy to put them in.

'But if they come wearing hoodies or masks it will be just as hard to identify them.'

He believes the culprits are being paid to attack his car, and says he may know who is responsible but so far there is no evidence against anyone.

Last night's attack took place between 7.45pm and 7am. Information to police on 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
