Lib Dem John Ireland, who took over the seat from party colleague Howard Jones, said: 'I'm elated after many months of hard work.
'It has been a good campaign. I want to see a major improvement in Southsea seafront, which has got a lot of potential compared to places like Brighton and Bournemouth. It has got the best promenades in the country.'
