Cervical cancer jab NHS plea

GIRLS are being urged to have all three doses of the cervical cancer vaccine.

The HPV vaccination programmes has been running in Hampshire for more than a year now, and involves girls aged between 12 and 13 being given the jabs by their school nurse.

Older girls are also being contacted as part of a catch-up programme.

But the uptake rate for the whole vaccine course is only 66 per cent of the younger girls, and 25 per cent of the older age group - despite reminder letters being sent out each time a dose of the vaccine is due.

Noeleen McFarland, immunisation co-ordinator for NHS Hampshire said: 'We want to inform young girls and their families of the importance of this vaccine and moreover the importance of having all three injections.

'It's vital that girls don't stop at one or two doses.'
