Charity box thief in court

A TEENAGER has narrowly avoided an immediate jail sentence after admitting stealing charity boxes from a pub.

Jordan Hunt entered guilty pleas to charges of trespassing in the Thatched House in Milton Locks where he stole charity boxes containing about £100 cash, and a bottle of vodka on November 18, as well as entering the same pub as a trespasser with intent to steal on November 24.

The 18-year-old, of Brompton Road in Southsea, also admitted stealing a Samsung digital camera and Sony Vaio laptop from the same address on December 10.

He was sentenced by the bench at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court to 34 weeks in a detention centre, suspended for a year and given a four-week curfew order.

He was also ordered to pay £80 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
