Charity finds way to counter hard times

A LOCAL charity is organising a singing contest to raise money to fund a radiotherapy machine.

Fort Cancer is arranging The Why Factor, which will give the winner an opportunity to sing at The Kings Theatre, Southsea, next March.

Heats will run throughout July and August and will take place in locations across Hampshire.

The prize also includes time with a private voice coach and choreographer, as well as being able to keep the outfit worn on the stage in March.

The money raised will go towards funds for a revolutionary radiotherapy machine for the treatment of early rectal cancer.

Malcolm Chewter, charity manager, said: 'This is an exciting and credible competition.

'There will be heats run across the county at various venues. This is a tough year for charities and we have to work harder to earn our funds.

'That is why we believe we have come up with a pretty unique charity event and we are seeking sponsorship.'
