Charity is given cash by school

PUPILS have raised hundreds of pounds for a charity which helps train people in first aid.

The students in MacArthur House at Swanmore College of Technology have made a 750 donation to the Meon Valley HeartStart group.

Since it was formed eight years ago MVHS has trained more than 7,000 people across Hampshire in first aid basics.

And its instructors have have given lifesaving training at the secondary school.

The 270 pupils of MacArthur House adopted the charity as their good cause as a thank you for teaching them the vital skills.

They raised the money through a non-uniform day, cake sales, challenges, competitions and selling badges designed by a pupil.

HeartStart chairwoman Jean Hammerton said: 'This will enable the HeartStart sessions to continue, and will help provide vital equipment, such as the "lungs" which have to be replaced after each trainee has used the resuscitation model patient.'

The cheque was presented by house sports captain Seb Allen and house captain Laurie Moore to HeartStart's co-ordinator David Williams and assistant instructor Julie Cottam.
