Lib Deb Margaret Foster retained the Charles Dickens ward, ahead of the tories in second place and Labour in third.

She said: 'I am overwhelmed. It has been hard work and we have achieved a lot in the last four years and I am sure we will achieve a lot more.

'We are going to concentrate on Buckland because we want to bring the housing there up to scratch. We want to get the residents to fall in love with their areas.'
