Children learn all the words of the world
Korean and Polish were just two of the languages being learned by pupils at a special event to celebrate international culture.
More than 80 pupils at Horndean Technology College were treated to a whistle-stop tour of the world as they spent the afternoon having taster lessons in Polish, Norwegian, Danish, Korean, Chinese, Dutch, Farsi, Greek and Swahili, as well as British Sign Language.
Many of the linguists were residents from the local community who had volunteered to take part in Speedlingo.
The grand finale for the Year 8 pupils was a traditional Chinese lion dance performed by the sixth form students of St John's College, Southsea.
Cathy Peters, head of languages at the college, said: 'It was fantastic seeing our top students trying out new languages.'
She added: 'There was a real buzz of enthusiasm around the hall. The lion dance was brilliant.
'Our volunteers, who all gave up an afternoon to help, were wonderful and I would like to thank them again.'
