THE children of a man killed in a car crash on his way home from work have spoken of their devastation at losing their ‘selfless’ father.
Andy Greest, 54, of Pelham Road, Gosport, was driving southbound in his Vauxhall near Winchester services on the M3 on Saturday when he was in a collision with another Vauxhall at 10.13pm.
Mr Greest, a HGV driver, leaves behind four children in Gosport, Jon, 25, Kayleigh, 22, Daniel, 17, and Harry, nine, along with Shana, 31, of London.
The former soldier is also survived by his mother Joyce Greest, 73, of Wheeler Close, Gosport and another son, Michael, 25, of London.
Kayleigh, who lived with her father, Daniel and Harry, said she had spoken to Mr Greest before he left work at 8.45pm and was expecting him to return by 11pm.
‘We all feel lost,’ she said.
‘If he said he was going to be in, where he did the same journey every day, he was in at that time.’
Kayleigh said that her father worked hard to look after her, Daniel and Harry.
She said: ‘I feel terrible, he’s my best friend, he’s everything.
‘He went to work every day, all he did was work to pay for this house for us and he was like my best friend.
‘On his days off he would do nothing apart from make sure we’ve all got a cooked dinner.
‘He was just great, we meant everything to him – all of us.
‘We used to go banger racing with him but he didn’t really have a social life, he just worked continuously, 17 or 20-hour shifts all the time.’
And Daniel said one of his favourite memories of his father was when he took him to Fratton Park for the first time, something Mr Greest had planned to do on Boxing Day.
He said: ‘We’ve got tickets for Portsmouth – he bought them the day he died.
‘He was honest, if he had something to say, he’d say it.’
The family said they will also remember his passion for music, particularly his love of karaoke and singing round the house.
Mr Greest is survived by his ex-wife Sally, 43, girlfriend Tina Lewis, 53, of Gosport along with brothers Nicky Greest, 52, of Newlands Avenue and Christopher Greest, 50, of Queens Road, and sisters Lois Patrick, 44, of Gosport, Susan Molineaux, 57, of New Zealand.
n A 44-year-old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was bailed until February 28.
