Clampers mean Joey will miss out on his party

A FATHER had to cancel his four-year-old son's birthday party – for fear guests would be clamped.

Simon Baggott took the heart-breaking decision after clampers were employed to target roads in a village.

Notices have been put up in Knowle, near Fareham, saying 'no parking in roadway area' with people having to pay 135 if they park 'incorrectly'.

But residents say the signs are confusing and they don't know where they are allowed to park.

Mr Baggott said he had no choice but to cancel little Joey's birthday party.

The 25-year-old, of Knowle Avenue, said: 'We planned Joey's party back in March.

'We had friends and family coming from all over, from the New Forest, Fleet, some even as far as Manchester. It wasn't going to be a party where parents just dropped their kids off.

'But we've got no option but to cancel. There would have been about 10 cars and if they can't park on the road, where can they park?

'We just can't risk people coming here and then facing a hefty bill for it. It's not fair on our guests.

'Joey was pretty upset about it having to be cancelled.

'For us it's more infuriating that we're having to change or stop doing things.

'We're worried about having any visitors round, like many other people are.'

The roads in Knowle are not owned by the council, but by the developer Berkeley Homes, which is still building the village.

Peverel OM, the company that manages the estate, ordered the clamping to be brought in, and Shoal Enforcement is now enforcing it.

The management company previously told The News it introduced clamping because of complaints from residents about 'thoughtless and dangerous' parking, but said the measures were a three-month trial.

Mr Baggott now plans to carry out a survey around the village, asking people for their views to then present to Peverel OM.

He said: 'I'm willing to lead a campaign on this. I'll door-knock every house in the village if I have to.

'We can't carry on like this.'
