A CUP of coffee and a chat with a local police officer have proved a winning combination for a Safer Neighbourhoods Team.
The police drop-in cafe Cops ‘n’ Coffee in Greywell Precinct, Leigh Park, is hosted by officers every other Tuesday.
Sgt Gary Smith said: ‘We had a problem in Leigh Park getting people to tell us what the issues were, and what the police should be doing.
‘We tried various things but they didn’t work.
‘It’s important that we police according to what the community wants and Cops ‘n’ Coffee is working here.’
Hampshire police has said officers can react immediately when incidents are reported, rather than calls going through the control centre and then Havant station.
When the coffee shop is empty, officers can use their laptops or go out on patrol,
The shop is also, manned by volunteers and had been commended by police and crime commissioner for Hampshire Simon Hayes.
The scheme could now be rolled out to other areas of the force.
