Curtain may fall on film nights at village centre
FILM nights at Denmead Community Centre are under threat because of falling attendances.
The centre's management committee has voiced concern after recent films were poorly attended.
The April showings had to be cancelled because there were not enough advance bookings.
Manager Jane Andreoli said: 'So far we have avoided losing money on all but two films – mainly due to the fact that the evenings are staffed by volunteers.'
A number of changes have been introduced by Mrs Andreoli to try to increase audiences.
Refreshments will be served before the film as there will be no film shown before the main feature.
A sound induction loop has been fitted for the hard of hearing and the management committee is considering putting in light-excluding blinds. There are also plans to have cushions on every seat.
But Mrs Andreoli added: 'The company which supplies the films and the projectionist have raised concerns that if we have fewer than 60 people, they may not be able to carry on using this venue.'
