David Cameron stops off at Italian restaurant on his way to France
Staff working a quiet shift at an Italian restaurant were shocked when David Cameron dropped in for lunch.
Christian Mascia, Luca Adamo and Giuseppe Mascia were preparing to close up at The Italian Pizza House, in Hilsea, Portsmouth, at 1.40pm on Saturday, when they were interrupted by the leader of the Conservative Party's wife, Samantha.
Christian Mascia said: 'I didn't recognise her. She asked if we had a table and I looked to check the kitchens were still open. I saw they were, so then she came in with a man and two children.
'On second glance, I saw it was David Cameron.'
Mr Cameron was on his way to Portsmouth Ferryport, from where he, Samantha and their two children Nancy, five, and Arthur, three, caught a ferry for a two-week break in France.
Mr Mascia said: 'He was a lovely person. They all were. He was as he comes across on TV.'
Luca Adamo, a waiter at The Italian Pizza House, added: 'They seemed relaxed, and were looking forward to a couple of weeks away.'
