Developer confirms it is waiting for Stubbington bypass

 

CONTROVERSIAL plans from a developer to build a 1,550-home estate have been delayed because it is analysing the impact of a proposed bypass.

A spokesman from Hallam Land, which is behind the proposed Newlands estate on fields between Stubbington and Fareham, said it is currently ‘considering statutory consultation responses received and the implication of the latest consultation on the route of the Stubbington bypass’.

The current determination date for the estate is October 8, although Hallam Land has been in discussions with Fareham Borough Council to ask for more time.

If allowed, the estate would see 1,550 homes, a doctor’s surgery, school and pub built on fields off Peak Lane.

Many people have objected to the plan and a petition organised by Ranvilles Lane resident Mary Jo Frew has gained more than 1,000 signatures.

Their main concern is that the estate would put extra pressure on struggling facilities.

Stephen Jenkins, highways officer at Hampshire County Council, has raised concerns about the current lack of highway infrastructure.

A county council decision on submitting a planning application is due in November.
