POLICE are making a fresh appeal for witnesses after a car was stolen with a five-year-old sitting inside.

As previously reported, a mother’s high-performance Mitsubishi Lancer Evo was struck from behind by a silver BMW on the roundabout at Frendstaple and Stakes Hill Road, in Waterlooville.

After the mother got into a disagreement with the driver about the damage, the passenger of the BMW jumped into her car and sped off with her son inside.

The Mitsubishi was found near Oaklands Catholic School, in Stakes Hill Road, with the unharmed boy inside.

Officers have released a photograph of the Mitsubishi to jog the memory of people who may have seen what happened. Police are also looking to get in touch with a woman who drove a blue vehicle along Frendstaple Road behind the Mitsubishi before the BMW was seen.

Det Chief Insp Wendy Priston said: ‘This woman could be an important witness to the events surrounding the theft.’

Witnesses can call 101.
