Diving delight
A PORTSMOUTH sailor has graduated from a gruelling diving course.
Able Seaman Diver, Darren Marshall, has completed six months of specialist training at the Defence Diving School, based on Horsea Island, and received his award from Commander Tom Russell.
The 29-year-old joined the Royal Navy in January 2007 and had served onboard HMS Ark Royal and HMS Illustrious but wanted to become a diver.
He said: 'I feel like I have achieved a lot, I am delighted. I'm really happy that I transferred to diving, although this is a lot harder.'
And he will now join one of the mine counter-measures squadrons, based at either Faslane in Scotland or Portsmouth.
Cdr Russell said: 'The diver's training course is the most physically and mentally demanding course in the Royal Navy. On Darren's course 12 started but only five successfully completed it.'
