Double crash causes M27 jams
Two crashes within an hour caused major traffic jams between Fareham and Portsmouth today.
The hold-ups started at 6.30am, when the driver of a Renault Clio lost control.
The car turned onto its roof after smashing into a crash barrier at the roundabout on the west-bound slip road at the M27's junction 11, where the road meets the A27 into Fareham.
One person, a man in his 40s, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, before being taken to Queen Alexandra hospital.
Fire crews from Fareham and the special equipment unit from Cosham attended the scene, as well as paramedics and police.
The accident shut the road, meaning drivers had to find alternative routes and causing tailbacks on the M27 as far as Portsmouth.
Almost an hour later, a further accident near the scene of the first crash caused further delays.
Four vehicles, including a Ford Mondeo and a black Ford Transit van, collided with one another, on the westbound section of the M27, almost underneath the bridge at the A27, at Junction 11.
Three people received minor injuries and were taken to Queen Alexandra hospitla, Cosham.
The outside two lanes of the motorway was blocked and police said further tailbacks were inevitable.
Emergency services moved directly from the scene of the first accident to the second. Clearance work was continuing.
