Dozens of sailors head down under
MORE than 80 axed Royal Navy sailors have applied to serve in the Australian Navy.
Australian Vice Admiral Ray Griggs said cuts to thousands of sailors in Britain were proving a boon to recruiters looking to fill vacant positions down under.
‘The recent round of retrenchments that have been announced in the UK have certainly given us an opportunity,’ he said.
Overall, there have been 200 expressions of interest from British soldiers, sailors or airmen.
