Drug addict slashed victim's nose with knife

A DRUG addict slashed a man across the face with a knife after hurling racist abuse at him.

Alan Pilgrim had sworn and shouted racist abuse at Nolens Masona and his friends.

When the group ran after him he pulled a knife out and cut Mr Masona across the nose.

Pilgrim had asked the men for a cigarette when he bumped into them outside Brothers Convenience store in Fratton Road in the early hours of the morning.

When they told him they didn't have any he turned on them and started shouting and showed them his knife.

As the 30-year-old walked away and continued to hurl insults Mr Masona, who had been to Babylon night club, in Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth, ran after him.

Pilgrim pulled the knife out and attacked Mr Masona.

Members of the public watched on as he dumped the knife in a bin and ran off. He was arrested a short time later in nearby Selbourne Terrace. The victim was left with a 4cm gaping wound across his nose and is permanently scarred.

Pilgrim, of Frensham Road, Southsea, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and having a blade in public following the incident last September.

The court heard he had managed to get a place at Kenwood House, a rehab clinic in Kent and was trying to sort his life out. Pilgrim was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years. He will also have 12 months of supervision from the probation service.
