Best Film 2009
A short, quirky romantic comedy was awarded the title of Best Film. Less Than Romantic stood head and shoulders above its competition in style and substance and has already won a Screen South Award and been put forward for the Royal Television Society Awards.
Filmed as part of a television and film production course at Portsmouth University, from which the filmmakers graduated in July, the short is very loosely based on a short story called A Little Walk.
Producer, 21-year-old Josh Hibberd from Southsea, collected the award.
He says: 'It is amazing to win this award. I was sure Mark (runner-up] would win, so this was a massive surprise.
'I suppose it was quite an ambitious film for such a small crew. We had 13 locations and a cost of 650. But it was worth it in the end. This is the first piece of work I've been really happy with.'
Runner-up was Mark by James Harrison.
In this documentary filmmakers followed professional BMX rider and local resident Mark Webb all the way to China as he ignored medical advice to compete in the international X-Games after breaking his back.
The awards were presented by News columnist and Wave 105 DJ Rick Jackson.
