Campaign calls for end to 'new town' plans
Environmental campaigners are hoping a council will follow its neighbours in removing plans for thousand of new homes in the county.
The new South Hampshire group of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) has applauded the decision by Eastleigh Borough Council's to remove the requirement for 6,000 homes at Hedge End, following the abolition of the South East Plan.
CPRE has long campaigned for regeneration of the cities and urban centres rather than development of greenfield sites.
Caroline Dibden, who leads the group said: 'We look forward to learning that other local authorities in the south of Hampshire will follow suit.
'We continue to have concerns about the North of Fareham strategic development area and new proposals for a business park on the slopes of Portsdown Hill at Junction 11 of the M27.'
But Cllr Sean Woodward, leader of Fareham Borough Council, said it did not plan to remove the 7,000 home SDA from its own requirements.
