Youngsters enjoy fair

A church offered youngsters all the fun of the fair - for free.

Cosham Baptist Church rounded off an Easter holiday children's club with a fun day, featuring free candy floss and barbecue refreshments, Robot Wars battles, an inflatable assault course and the Weapons of Sound Junk band.

Youth Minister the Reverend Simon Ford said it was a joint gift to the community from the church and Drayton and Farlington Children's Centre, set to launch at the church this year.

'People seemed to find the concept of not having to pay for a day of fun and food quite difficult to grasp,' he added.

'But we were aiming for a practical demonstration of God's free gift of grace to us.'

The Holiday Club - called Rocky's Plaice - ran in the week preceding the Fun Day attracted 120 junior school age children every day and featured craft, drama and games. Based in an imaginary fish and chip shop, the action centred on life in the early church through the eyes of Jesus' disciple, Peter - the Rock.
