Eastleigh by-election date revealed

Former Energy Secretary Chris Huhne

Former Energy Secretary Chris Huhne

PEOPLE in Eastleigh will decide who will be their next MP in less than a month’s time.

The by-election for disgraced former cabinet minister Chris Huhne’s seat will take place on February 28.

The contest, which will pit the coalition parties against each other, was sparked when Huhne stepped down from Parliament this month after pleading guilty to dodging punishment for speeding.

The Lib Dems have held Eastleigh since winning the constituency in a 1994 by-election.

However, the Conservatives have signalled they will go all-out to achieve the 3.6 per cent swing which would secure a morale-boosting victory for the party.
