Electrical fault causes van to go up in flames

A VAN that was locked up in an MOT garage was completely destroyed by fire.

Firefighters said that a transit-style van had been locked away inside a garage in London Road, opposite the Shell petrol station on Friday evening.

But at 6pm the alarm was raised when smoke was seen coming out of the premises.

Two trucks from Cosham, one from Southsea, and the special equipment unit was sent to the garage.

On arrival they found the garage was completely engulfed by smoke.

Four firefighers put on breathing apparatus kit and used jets to put out the
blaze.

The van had been brought in due to an electrical fault.

Firefighters said the cause of the blaze is accidental, and that the vehicle had been locked away for the night.

The van was entirely destroyed by the flames and parts of the garage was also damaged.

Crews were on scene until shortly after 7pm, as they controlled the fire and then ensured the garage was safe before leaving.

No one was hurt in the incident and there will be no investigation into the cause of the fire.
