Ex-Marines band back to entertain its fans

A convert band with more than 1,500 years of experience behind it is playing a show this weekend.

The Royal Marines Association Concert Band is back at Ferneham Hall in Fareham for a fourth consecutive year on Sunday from 3pm.

This talented band of 50 is made up mostly of former Royal Marines musicians who came together four years ago under Ted Whealing, the former director of music on the Royal yacht, Britannia.

Trumpet player Derek Usher, 67, said: 'We all enjoy doing what we were originally trained to do, which is making good-quality music to suit all tastes.

'The guys are really looking forward to meeting up with our audience again this year, We can promise them a very exciting and a very different programme of music.'

Money raised by their concerts is split between Royal Marines charities and the band's upkeep. Their CDs will also be available to buy at the show.

For tickets go to fernehamhall.co.uk or call (01329) 231942.
