Families will hear from heart professor
One of the world's leading experts in inherited heart disease is visiting the area to talk to families affected by the condition.
Professor William McKenna, professor of cardiology at The Heart Hospital in London, is speaking at an information meeting being held by the Cardiomyopathy Association, a charity that offers information and support to affected families.
The disease of the heart muscle affects about one in 500 people and is the biggest medical cause of sudden death in the under-35s. It is thought to be responsible for around four young deaths a week in the UK.
But when it is found and properly treated, most of those affected can go on to lead a long and full life.
The charity is holding the meeting at the Solent Hotel and Spa, in Rookery Avenue, Whiteley, February 28, from 9.30am to 5pm.
Also speaking will be Simon Waller, the association's cardiomyopathy nurse specialist at The Heart Hospital in London, and consultant cardiologist Dr Paul Kalra from St Mary's Hospital, in Portsmouth.
For more information about cardiomyopathy or to book a place at the meeting, see cardiomyopathy.org or call freephone 0800 0181024.
