Family in firework horror
An investigation has been launched after a lit firework was posted through a family's letterbox.
A family of four, with two young children, were in the house at the time of the horrifying incident.
The arson attack happened in a terraced house in Titchfield, just after 10pm last night.
The family members were only alerted to the danger when the firework went off and the smoke alarm started sounding.
The firework set a net curtain attached to the door on fire, but both soon fizzled out.
Police and two crews from Fareham fire station were called, and say the family are lucky to be alive.
Watch manager Simon Whelan said: 'If it hadn't been for the net curtain, a fire could have spread quite quickly. There were a lot of coats and other combustible things in the hall.
'Fortunately it went out though and there was just a lot of smoke in the hall and landing.
'The family were shaken up. Something like this is obviously deliberate, fireworks don't make their way through letterboxes on their own.
'This could have ended a lot worst.'
The police and fire service have launched a joint probe into the attack.
