Fareham shop sells booze to teens

Only one out of 14 pubs and off-licences failed a test purchase operation by selling booze to youngsters.

Police officers went to the venues, spread across the Fareham borough, and used a 15 and a 16-year-old to try and buy alcohol on Saturday.

The Spar at the BP petrol station on Bridge Road in Park Gate was the only failure and an 80 fixed penalty notice was issued to the staff member.

Licensing officer Sergeant Roy Jennings said: 'All in all the results for the night were good. It was still disappointing however to have the failure, due to a lack of suitable training for the staff member.

'It was encouraging to see all the on-licences passed. This was good news and they should pat themselves on the back for continuing to robustly check for ID and refuse sales to those who can not produce ID.'
