A LANDLORD under investigation after nearly £30,000 of Christmas collection money went missing from his pub may have jumped from a cross-channel ferry, police have said.
Malcolm Levesconte, 59, landlord of the Royal Oak in Shrewton, near Salisbury, bought a return ticket from Portsmouth to St Malo on December 9, but is believed to have disappeared while the ferry was en route.
Detective Sergeant Mike Standing said: ‘I would like to appeal to anyone who has information to come and speak to us - his family are facing the terrible prospect that he may have committed suicide.
‘It is therefore imperative that we hear from you if you have heard from Mr Levesconte.’
Officers are writing to 61 customers at the Royal Oak following the theft of the money, previously collected by the landlord. Call 101 with any information.
