Final farewell from Portsmouth ship's crew
DRESSED in their marching best, sailors from HMS Nottingham said a final goodbye.
More than 100 crew members from the Portsmouth-based Type 42 destroyer took to the streets of Nottingham.
As they were cheered by the crowds there was emotion for the ship's company, as it was the last time they will appear there.
On February 11 the white ensign will be lowered on the ship at Portsmouth Naval Base, marking her decommissioning from the fleet.
Commander Andy Price, who is in command of Nottingham, said: 'There has been a huge affinity with Nottingham throughout the ship's life and we felt privileged to be able to seal our relationship by parading through this fine city.
'The enduring support and encouragement that the people of Nottingham have traditionally given, not only to their adopted ship, but also to the wider Armed Forces, is much appreciated.
'This last visit to our city has been tinged with sadness though we were among old friends.'
HMS Nottingham sustained 39m of damage in July 2002 when she was steered onto a rock off the coast of Australia.
