A FIRE broke out on the 15th floor of a Portsmouth tower block this afternoon.
Crews from Southsea, Cosham and Portchester were called to the scene of the kitchen blaze at Barkis House in Brownlow Close, Buckland.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the 15th floor of the block of flats at 2.30pm by a neighbour who saw smoke coming from the window.
A woman was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue service spokesman said: ‘We were called to a kitchen fire on the 15th floor of Barkis House.
‘Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using three jets. One female was treated for smoke inhalation by South Central Ambulance service.
‘Five appliances attended, three from Southsea and two from Cosham and also the special equipment unit from Cosham and the aerial ladder platform from Southsea, plus 4 fire service officers. A total of 29 personnel attended.’
It is the second major fire call-out in Portsmouth today. Early this morning, five people escaped a house blaze in Ophir Road, North End.
