Fire rips through youth centre

Youngsters had a narrow escape after a blaze broke out at a youth centre today (Saturday).

Half a dozen youths discovered the fire in the King's Arms club, Petersfield, when they opened a locked door.

They immediately closed the door again to contain the fire, raised the warning and got out of the building unhurt.

At 12.54pm 27 fire fighters from Petersfield, Horndean, Liphook, Basingstoke and Cosham were called to the scene.

They used two hoses and managed to bring the fire at the youth club in Courtyard Buildings in Heath Road quickly under control.

The club is run with the help of volunteers and may have to be temporarily relocated.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
