FIREFIGHTERS were called out in the early hours of this morning after a bed in a flat caught fire.

Four fire engines were sent to the incident in Hamble Road, Gosport, which happened at 1.40am.

Crews broke down the door of the first-floor property - finding the bed on fire but nobody home - before extinguishing the flames.

The bedroom was heavily damaged by smoke and an investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.

No-one was in the flat at the time and police, who put in the 999 call, are now seeking to contact the owner.
