AROUND 120 sand bags have had to be delivered to villagers as groundwater continues to rise and increase the risk of flooding.
Neighbours in Rowlands Castle and Finchdean are on high alert for the threat of flooding as channels are at full capacity and water is bubbling up from underground springs.
Water was as high as 2ft on some roads yesterday, with drivers being urged to avoid Woodberry Lane.
Residents at Dean Lane End were putting sand bags along a channel that was threatening to burst its banks and flood Dean Lane.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: ‘It’s up to the top of the flood channel.
‘We are taking all the necessary precautions.’
Portable toilets were also set to be delivered to several villagers in Finchdean as the high water table means they cannot flush their toilets.
Animals at Comley Fields have had to be moved to higher ground. With the prospect of more showers, residents are monitoring the situation.
Steve Protheroe, chairman of the Flood Action Group, said: ‘The floodwater is going through the parish without causing any problems.
‘Any more and this is when there is a risk of flooding.’
