Football bid to stop yob behaviour

A BEAT bobby is hoping to kick off a new football league in a bid to help crack down on anti-social behaviour.

Youngsters across the Stubbington and Titchfield areas are being invited to take part in the new six-a-side league which is due to start next month.

PC Jason Mann has already been running successful, informal football evenings on Mondays at West Hill Park School in Titchfield, attracting up to 70 kids a time. Now he's looking to get as many teams signed up to an organised league format as possible.

PC Mann said: 'We have just finished one league off and it went really well, but we want a lot more people to get involved.

The kids are already asking me when it's going to be starting again. At the moment I'm going around everywhere to see who's interested.'

A six month 'no-go' zone was set up in Stubbington and Hill Head in April to combat anti-social behaviour, but PC Mann has not had to use the powers of the dispersal order since it was introduced.

The 10-week season will run up until Christmas, when there will be a presentation night.
