Football League say Pompey owner misled them
FORMER Pompey owner Vladimir Antonov provided ‘misleading and possibly fraudulent’ business plans to the Football League, the authority has said.
The allegations were made in an e-mail exchange between Pompey fan Paul Chalmers-Stevens and the Football League’s customer services department.
In the e-mail, Mr Chalmers-Stevens asked the league what checks were carried out on Mr Antonov before he bought the club in June 2011.
The response was: ‘It is however worth noting that steps taken by the Football League were based upon the evidence of proof of funding, together with related business plans.
‘It appears that the evidence was at best misleading and possibly fraudulent with the league not being alone in accepting this evidence.’
Mr Antonov stepped down as Pompey chairman in November after being arrested following allegations of a £250m fraud at Lithuanian bank AB Bankas Snoras.
