Fratton Park will not be sold off separately

Fratton Park has not been - and will not be - sold by Portsmouth Football Club, despite stories to the contrary.

That is the message from administrator Andrew Andronikou, as he markets the club to potential buyers.

The announcement is likely to be welcomed by fans who have raised concerns over the future of the ground in recent weeks.

Mr Andronikou confirmed during a press conference at Fratton Park yesterday that although former owner Balram Chainrai, who placed the club in administration last month, had first refusal on Pompey's ground, he had not exercised his right to buy at any time.

Rumours have continued that Mr Chainrai plans to lease Fratton Park back to the club's administrators or new owners at a rate of around 1.2m per year.

However Mr Andronikou promised the time had passed for the Hong Kong businessman to buy the ground.

And at yesterday's press conference at Fratton Park, he said: 'The ground belongs to the football club and it's not going anywhere.'

He added: 'The football stadium will remain with the football club.'

Talking The News soon after he took over, Mr Andronikou said: 'Mr Chainrai never bought the ground and there is no way I would let it be sold now. The ground and the club need to be kept together and we will not sell Fratton Park to anybody, Mr Chainrai included, without selling the entire club.

'Portsmouth FC and its ground will be kept together, as the club is a much better proposition for an owner with a ground than without one.

'We own the ground and will continue to until a new buyer completes their purchase.'
