Gallery: Challenge from Navy for young artificers

YOUNGSTERS from across the country came to Gosport to try their hand at engineering.

About 30 teams competed in this year's final of the Royal Navy Young Engineers Challenge at HMS Sultan.

The teams took part in the Operation Wave Rider competition which pitted remote-control vehicles, designed by the youngsters, against each other.

As well as taking part in the challenge, the teams had the chance of a flight over Portsmouth harbour and the Solent in a Royal Navy helicopter, as well as trying their hands on some of the Royal Navy exhibits.

The youngest pupils there were from Stamshaw Junior School in Portsmouth.

The other local schools that took part were Bridgemary Community Sport College in Gosport, City of Portsmouth Boys' School and Swanmore College of Technology.
