GALLERY: Hundreds see Star Wars heroes switch lights on
Parents and children turned out to feel the force and to welcome the switching on of Cosham's Christmas lights.
More than 100 people gathered outside the Crown Bingo hall in the High Street to see the spectacular festive lights brighten up the darkness on a mild evening in Portsmouth.
Children from Saxon Shore Infant School, Paulsgrove, took to the stage to sing Christmas carols while a Stormtrooper and a Wookie from the classic sci-fi film Star Wars flicked the switch just after 6pm.
Youngsters were kept busy throughout, with rides, glow sticks and sweet stands combining to keep them occupied.
Colin Walker, district centres co-ordinator at Portsmouth City Council, who helped organise the event, said: 'It was fantastic.
'We were so pleased with the way it went and the weather was okay as well.'
