Gamble pays off as casino staff complete Three Peaks
A group of staff from Grosvenor Casinos in Portsmouth have completed the Three Peaks Challenge to raise more than £2,000 for charity.
Staff from the Grosvenor Casinos in Gunwharf Quays and Osborne Road, Southsea, completed the challenge to raise money for The Rowans Hospice.
Conor Toner, Paul Brady and Mel Newman all completed the ascent of the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales which includes Ben Nevis, which is 4,406ft high, Scafell Pike, 3,206ft and Snowdon, 3,560ft, within the 24 hour time limit.
The event saw the participants cover more than 26 miles of the UK's toughest terrain.
Conor Toner, general manager at the Grosvenor Casino in Osborne Road, said: 'Our goal was to complete the challenge in less than 24 hours, something I'm really proud to say that we all achieved.
'It was a gruelling task, not only physically but also due to lack of sleep, and I'm thankful that I managed to fit in some training ahead of the event.
'It was a great moment when the team crossed the finish line – it made it all worth it.'
Tony Thorn, fundraising and marketing manager at The Rowans Hospice said: 'The team has done a fantastic job and should be really proud of themselves for completing the challenge.
'Support from members of the public, such as the staff and customers at Grosvenor Casinos, plays an important role in helping us meet the 3.7m needed every year to keep our service going.
'All the monies raised will help ensure that we continue to provide specialist care and support to patients with life limiting illness in the local area.'
